The weekend of 6th June weather wise was pretty miserable, races were shortened, altered and cancelled. Jon Gay ran the Trotternish Ridge and reported very little about the race, only that he finished 5th (well done Jon) but elaborated on the side show one mile into the race at the Quiraing. With cameras and a red banner being waved around, Jon assumed “they must be Carnethy supporters” what Jon seemingly missed was the naked model who was being filmed, as reported by others. The Quiraing on a good day can be a pretty hostile place but on this particular day with 44 runners passing by she’s one brave lady.
The other event that weekend was the Glas Tulaichean Uphill which was shortened and also included the run back downhill. The interesting thing here was the race to the line between Niall Macbeath and partner Susan Jane Ross, Niall just made it in 01:11:11 with Susan Jane 9 secs behind. Perhaps I should mention Niall’s pulled calf muscle.
Saturday past was the latest SHR championship event at Durisdeer, this was also a British counter. A close finish over the medium distance course saw Lochabers Finlay Wild finish in 2nd place in a time of 01:25:28. Tom Owens (Shettleston) 01:25:00 won with Rob Hope (Pudsey & Bramley) 01:25:45 placed 3rd. Jasmin Paris (Carnethy) 01:37:33 was 1st lady. Ciara Largey 01:58:28 for Lochaber finished in the top half of the 269 runners. Well done to Finlay and Ciara.

Lochaber Dinghy One Peak Race Results & Report 2015
A small mixed team of Lochaber runners travelled to the Slioch hill race on Saturday, “man flu” having claimed another couple of entrants. The course was shortened due to a dangerous river crossing. The day was superbly organised especially the prize giving where everyone received a momento of the day. The team failed to win the “best beard” award but nevertheless did well. Jon Gay finished 12th overall and was 3rd MV40(becoming a habit Jon), Ciara Largey was 57th overall and 6th lady and making up the team was Suzy Devey 72nd overall and 7th lady. The race was won by Andy Fallas (Carnethy) and just ahead of Jon was 1st lady Jasmin Paris also Carnethy.
Well done to Pete Duggan who completed his last Munro (including tops and demoted peaks) to coincide with the race.
Report and photo from Jon.
Following his win on Goatfell last week it was on to Jura for Finlay Wild, the smooth crossing obviously meant favourable conditions for the race. Jon Gay accompanied Finlay on the Anster Haddies “team” boat and both did really well, Finlay finishing first in around 3hrs 13mins ahead of Al Anthony (Ochils). Jon Gay was 13th and 3rd MV40. The ladies course record was broken by Jasmin Paris (Carnethy). Mark Shaw offered his services to LAC but being a dyed in the wool Diurach decided to stay loyal.
Thanks to Jon for photo and info ahead of results.

Lochaber’s Helen Rennard finished this English Championship race as eighth senior female. A great result in a strong field. Results to follow on the FRA website.
Due to fallen trees this years Fyrish was shortened slightly to 13k and 540m of ascent. This made the race no less tough with a certain amount of re ascent to contend with following a tough push up through a firebreak to reach the summit. Ten Lochaber runners made the trip north with the obligatory stop at the Beauly deli en route. First LAC home was Ewan Thorburn in fifth place in a time of 01:05:46. Mike Connolly was 1st MVet 60 in 01:24:16 and Nancy Kennedy was 1st FV50 in 01:35:07 . All Lochaber runners put in a strong performance and it was good to see so many club vests in action. Others taking part were:- Gavin MacMillan 01:13:33, Niall MacBeath 01:17:26, Alan Lamont 01:17:30, Barrie MacKinnon 01:19:40,Robert MacLean 01:24:15, Susan Jane Ross 01:33:13 and Graham MacNab 01:45:24
Last Wednesday night 11 LAC runners travelled to Luss for the Beinn Dubh race, a sunny evening provided perfect conditions and with no road/trail to warm up it was straight up the grassy route. Views from the top were spectacular and well worth the effort. Callum Fraser was our best performer in 11th place, the only prize winner among us was FV60 Elma Murdoch. Thanks to the organisers and Mountain Rescue.
Photos by Margaret Rose MacPhee from the recent winter league junior prize giving. Well done to all.
Dingwall was the venue for this tough underfoot hill race, fortunately there were glimpses of sun and only slight mist covering the top, the main obstacle was the fast flowing burn, waist deep for those with short legs. LAC had 12 runners on the start line Hugh Mackintosh was our top finisher in 14th place in a time of 01:21:07 (3rd v50), Gavin Macmillan 01:22:12, Andrew Hagan 01:23:57, Robert Maclean 01:37:00, Mike Connolly 01;39:12(2nd v60), Graham Macnab 01:44:02, Ross MacMillan 01:53:27, Bill Cameron 01:57:12, Aileen Kitson 02:28:30, Elma Murdoch 02:29:14 and Ray Murdoch 02:29:14 also took part. The Ghost Runner listed on the results may have been one of our young runners (no names no polis station) with an impressive 01:20:12.
Having sampled some excellent hospitality at hill race events I must say todays baking was top drawer with loads left for the backmarkers. Well done to the caterers and also officials and marshals.
